When the lowest points of life are transformed into magical moments. Korean-born Dorothy M. Yoon is dedicated to creating art with the concept that "this moment is magic." Her works, which sublimate her real-life experiences into fantasy, evoke feelings of anguish, fantasy, eroticism, and intellect, and express the process by which these elements overlap with one another. Now, Swatch has unveiled two new Swatch Art Specials by Yoon: TIME'S MAGIC and POWER OF MAGIC. These watches will capture magical moments and inspire your wrist with power!

Yoon's relationship with Swatch is like a love story. It began in 2017, when she was Artist-in-Residence at the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. It was here that the concept of "This Moment is Magic" was born. Five years ago, after being diagnosed with cancer, Yoon received a painkiller injection as part of her treatment. Like a magic wand, it brought light to the dark days of her life and inspired the traditional Korean pattern "Saekdong," which uses a variety of colors. Since the concept was born, magic wands and joyous colors have recurred in her work.

"I've always been fascinated by the idea of holding a magic wand," says Yoon. "With a wave of your wrist, you can become anything you want, save the world, or even become a superstar. I believe these two watches will bring colorful, positive, magical energy and peace of mind to people."

TIME'S MAGIC evokes the elusive concept of time and the image of memory unravelling history. POWER OF MAGIC was created to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel in Shanghai. It is a limited edition of 1,976 pieces. Accompanied by a magic wand and presented in special three-dimensional packaging shining in the vibrant "Secton" colors, the watch is truly a work of art in itself.

(Miyeon Yoon was born in Busan, South Korea in 1976 and currently lives and works in Seoul. She holds an MFA from Ewha Womans University in Seoul and Goldsmiths, University of London. Yoon has exhibited her work in numerous solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, and independent exhibitions, including Swatch Faces at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Her work is included in numerous museum and private collections throughout Europe and Asia.

Founded in 2011 by Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel invites artists from a variety of fields and provides them with the opportunity to live and create in Shanghai for several months. The project's aim is to engage with artists from around the world as a brand that stands for diversity, freedom of expression, innovation, and the belief that artists and their work have the power to make the world a better place.

Eighteen creators from a variety of artistic disciplines and backgrounds are invited to live and work in rooms and studios within the building for several months. To date, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel has welcomed 385 artists from 51 countries. Thanks to the efforts of these diverse artists, the artist residency initiative has blossomed into a laboratory for contemporary creative experimentation and cultural exchange in Shanghai.
