The design event "Tokyo Designers Week 2013" runs through November 4th. Now in its 28th year, the event brings together a diverse range of creative endeavors, including architecture, interior design, product design, graphics, and art. This year's theme, "CREATIVE fes," is based on the three pillars of "DESIGN, ART, MUSIC," and 20 content programs will be held at locations throughout Tokyo. The show design for the main venue was handled by Kimi Hasegawa of Velvetta Design. A stage with a giant pink sphere as its backdrop was set up in the center of the venue, where live events will be held. Surrounding the stage are tents housing booths for creators, companies, and public institutions, as well as display containers. Fashion company Sanyo Shokai is exhibiting a "100-Year Coat" display and an artwork depicting a cityscape made from approximately 250,000 buttons. The "Young Creators Exhibition" and "School Works Exhibition," which have been one of the main features of TOKYO DESIGNERS WEEK and have served as a platform for young creators to share their work, have been newly established as the comprehensive creative awards "ASIA AWARDS." The exhibition showcases works by creators under the age of 30 from Asian countries. Along with the "Professional Exhibition" featuring works by professionals from Japan and abroad, the exhibition also promotes cultural exchange through works from various genres. The "Container Exhibition," an installation using containers that has been running for over 10 years, featured architecture, media art, digital fabrication, and corporate presentations. Furthermore, centered on the theme of "music" this year, "MUSIC STREET LIVE" featured live performances and music sessions by over 60 artists on three stages within the venue. Aside from the main venue, numerous other events linked to the event will also be held. At the Spanish Embassy, "BACKSTAGE" showcased 12 projects by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon. "ISETAN MITSUKOSHI DESIGN WEEK" is taking place mainly on the interior floors of Isetan Shinjuku, Ginza Mitsukoshi, and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store. At Seibu Shibuya and Shibuya Loft, "SHIBUYA DESIGN MARCHE" and "by|nendo" showcase outstanding Japanese products, providing a place to rediscover familiar product designs. In addition, special exhibitions and events are being held daily at galleries and interior shops around Tokyo.
