The "108 Department Store," with the largest sales floor space in the Kanto region, offers everything you need for daily life.
MUJI aims to realize a "comfortable life and society" by offering honest, quality products with meaning at reasonable prices in the basic areas of life - clothing, food, and shelter - and by promoting individual store management that works to revitalize the local area.

Opening at a time when lifestyles and values are changing dramatically due to the spread of COVID-19, Tokyo Ariake will be involved in all aspects of life, from food such as rice and fresh vegetables, and daily tools such as spoons and socks, to room renovations, house sales, and even town revitalization, and will aim to be a store that helps realize a "comfortable life" for people living near the store. The store, which boasts the largest sales floor space in the Kanto region, will stock almost all MUJI products and will also add eight new products and services based on three themes: "Lifestyle Support," "Home Building," and "Urban Development." As a "108 Department Store" that goes beyond a department store, we hope to be a presence that will be useful to local residents for a long time to come.

(1) [Lifestyle Support] Lifestyle Advice Center
The "Lifestyle Advice Center," a consultation counter located on the second floor, will offer a variety of new services to address each individual's concerns and help organize their lives. These services were developed based on the "lifestyle concerns" actually faced by people living in the Ariake area and other coastal areas, which have been gathered over the past year through housing-related surveys and roundtable discussions with local residents. We have a wide range of products and services to address a wide range of issues, including those who don't have time because they are both working and raising children, those who have time but don't know how to create a comfortable lifestyle, those who want to organize their own lifestyle and live independently, and those who are finding it difficult to live a fulfilling life on their own due to aging.

Tidying Support *Limited to Ariake, Tokyo
Tidying Support is a service in which MUJI staff visit your home to organize the possessions you truly need and improve your room's storage space, helping you simplify your life by eliminating possessions more than you need.

[Storage Consultation]
Storage specialists will visit your home and suggest storage options that suit your needs, from taking measurements to the optimal storage plan.
[Unwanted Item Collection]
We plan to collect unwanted items and, in collaboration with local businesses and partner companies, pass them on to others as a way to contribute to society and the environment, or repair and upcycle them before reselling them in a reuse initiative.
[Storage]
We offer a service that temporarily stores items you don't regularly use, starting from a single box. We will expand the usable space not only inside but also outside the home, and propose storage methods that suit modern lifestyles.
[Cleaning]
Our staff, who have professional cleaning qualifications, will provide cleaning assistance and advice. In-store events include cleaning seminar workshops, and we offer advice on how to use everyday household tools and cleaning at home.

Interior Consultations
We offer in-store, online, and on-site consultations on furniture selection, custom-made furniture, custom rugs and curtains, room lighting plans, storage installation, and more, tailored to your lifestyle and floor plan.

Monthly Houseplant Flat Rate Service *Exclusive to Ariake, Tokyo
We are launching a monthly flat rate service and sales of houseplants, including large plants, with the aim of helping people enjoy a rich, green lifestyle and develop a sense of attachment through growing plants. We offer plans for three-month, six-month, or one-year use of a wide variety of in-store plants and pots measuring 100-200cm in height, so that everyone from beginners to serious gardeners can enjoy the service. We will introduce plants that suit your lifestyle and provide easy-to-understand tips on growing each variety.

Limited-Time Products to Color Your Life *Exclusive to Ariake, Tokyo
In addition to the above services, we offer furniture and interior items exclusive to Ariake, Tokyo, including our black furniture series, Nordic vintage furniture, and ID&E art and greenery, designed to help you reevaluate the value of furniture and interior decor. These include materials that develop a unique texture with use, and tools and furniture you'll want to keep using forever.

(2) [Lifestyle Support] Food and Agriculture
Food, clothing, and shelter are all closely interrelated, with food being at the heart of these. Aiming to become a cornerstone of local residents' lives, Tokyo Ariake will offer a selection of food-related products and services on the first floor.

Food by Weight *First available in Tokyo Ariake
Because the amount people eat and use varies from time to time, we will begin selling food by weight to meet the needs of each individual. Focusing on dietary staples such as grains and dried foods, we will offer over 50 types of food, including coffee, nuts, and dried fruit, in 1-gram increments, starting from 20 grams, and sold individually, in the smallest single-serving units. We propose a "compact food lifestyle" where people don't own more than they need.

Café & Meal MUJI, Bakery, Juice Stand
Enjoy the world of MUJI food in three dining areas, including healthy "simple meals" that bring out the natural flavor of the ingredients; "bread" baked in-house using carefully selected ingredients, such as simple rolls, sliced bread, and croissants that go well with any food; and "fresh juice" made with seasonal vegetables and fruits.

Fruit & Vegetable Sales
Connecting directly with producers, we offer a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables unique to MUJI. We provide tips on storage methods and how to eat everything to reduce food waste, and we connect producers with your table in symbiosis with the local community. In addition, at the kitchen counter adjacent to the produce section, we offer "Today's Menu" breakfast and dinner menus with healthy recipe suggestions.

Water Refill Service
We have installed water refill stations in three locations throughout the store with the aim of using drinking water as an opportunity to think about the environment and health together with our customers. This water refill service uses tap water and is free for everyone to use by purchasing a "self-fillable water bottle" in-store or bringing your own bottle.

(3) [Daily Life Support] Environmentally Conscious Products and Services
Since its founding in 1980, MUJI has continued to develop environmentally and socially conscious products based on three principles: "selection of materials," "process inspection," and "simplification of packaging." In Tokyo Ariake, we will introduce new products and services created with this perspective.

Detergent Sold by Weight *Limited to Tokyo Ariake
Four types of MUJI detergents (laundry detergent, bath detergent, toilet detergent, and dishwashing detergent) that are gentle on the skin and environmentally conscious, as well as alkaline electrolyzed water cleaner, are sold in 100ml increments. To make effective use of resources, the containers will be made from empty PET bottles brought in by customers or used MUJI detergent bottles.

Simplifying Packaging (Product Packaging) *First in Ariake, Tokyo
In order to avoid wasting the earth's resources and reduce waste, all MUJI products are simply wrapped in packaging printed with information about their origins, or are simply tagged and displayed in stores. We have been gradually reviewing and eliminating packaging that primarily consists of plastic ingredients, such as by changing the display hooks for socks and scarves, and the packaging for underwear, which are typically made of plastic, to paper, or by using alternative materials such as recycled paper. In Ariake, Tokyo, we will be selling a new anti-aging lotion series in advance, in which the plastic content of the packaging has been reduced by approximately 20%.

(4) [Home Building] Partial Renovations/Full Renovations
In response to the dramatic changes in lifestyles caused by the spread of COVID-19, we will develop services that make it easier for customers to freely build homes that adapt to changes in their lifestyles by working with them to consider things like what makes them comfortable and what makes them unique, and what is versatile and functional for long-term use.

Partial Renovations *Limited to Ariake, Tokyo

This is a consultation desk where you can easily consult about partial renovations, in response to those who want to create an opportunity to change their lifestyle or make serious changes to their lifestyle. We offer a range of services, from simple renovations like building walls and finishing touches to individual room-specific renovations based on space packages tailored to each room, including kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and studies. We use building materials and storage furniture that emphasize the texture of the materials to transform your space into one that suits your lifestyle. You can view model rooms recreating each living space in-store.

DIY Support/MUJI INFILL+ *Limited to Ariake, Tokyo

This is a customer-participation room renovation support service. We offer seminars, workshops, and other events to help both experienced and beginner DIYers take their first steps, offering hands-on experience in DIY basics and wall painting. We also offer an "INFILL+" corner in the sales area, where you can freely customize your interior, along with books related to home building.

MUJI INFILL 0 Complete Renovation

We also accept consultations for full renovations, where you create a "zero (starting point)" for your life by keeping only what is truly necessary and editing your home to suit your own style. To give you a closer and more concrete idea of the finished look after renovation, we have set up a full-scale "INFILL 0" model room, modeled after an apartment, in-store for the first time in Tokyo Ariake.

(5) [Home Building] Full-scale Model House of the "Hikari no Ie" Detached House

As working styles are changing dramatically due to the impact of COVID-19 and other factors, we will be introducing the "Hikari no Ie" detached house and the "MUJI Hut" in-store for those who are considering rethinking their living arrangements, or those considering dual residence or living in the countryside. The "Hikari no Ie" was developed as a single-story home for a wide range of generations, offering a wide range of living options and accommodating a variety of lifestyles. It emphasizes the connection to the garden, which is possible only with a single-story home, and features a flat, comfortable living space. This store will be the first in the Tokyo metropolitan area to feature a full-scale model house, allowing customers to experience MUJI furniture, accessories, and other products in an actual living space. In addition, we plan to hold monthly talk events with creators on the theme of MUJI's vision of lifestyle. We will also be selling "MUJI Huts," which are not as extravagant as a house or vacation home but are tools for living in a place of your choice.

(6) [Urban Development] Creating spaces that treat the entire town as "your own living space"
Utilizing MUJI's experience in creating spaces centered on community co-creation, we will start a space creation service that considers the entire town as "your own living space," starting from the planning stage, in the four areas of "home," "office," "commercial facility," and "public." We will also be accepting consultations from across the country via online services at the corporate counter set up in this store.

In response to local issues and changes in lifestyles, such as vacant homes and depopulation, which have been further accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will work with clients to create total plans that incorporate spatial planning based on MUJI and ID&E content, as well as interior and fixture design utilizing natural materials, custom furniture and art unique to the region, and tool design for signs and flyers, all with the themes of space interaction and regional revitalization.

Home

In response to the increasing number of vacant rooms due to aging rental housing, depopulation, and rapid changes in lifestyles, we will consider space utilization methods that enhance the value of the space, focusing on renovations.

Office

We undertake office renovations for those who want to expand or reduce their office to suit teleworking or working from home, or who want to completely rethink the way their office is run and how they work. In Ariake, Tokyo, we will also be setting up a "visible office" model space where staff can see firsthand the environment in which they will be working.

Commercial Facilities

For corporations that want to improve their commercial facilities to create a more comfortable environment, we design common spaces and stores such as eat-ins where people can gather and relax. We also handle baby rooms and rest spaces for employees.

Public

We are considering creating open community spaces that make use of the characteristics of the area and that can be used by local residents in their daily lives, by utilizing unused public space owned by local governments or corporations, such as stations, abandoned schools, company housing, and common areas of apartment complexes.

(7) [Urban Development] Holding the "Tsunagari Market"
Even before the opening, we have been interacting with local residents through the holding of a limited-time market called "Tsunagari Market," which we created and run together with local people. Even after the opening, we will continue to collaborate with active local people from a variety of genres to hold market sales and events. Following the grand opening in December, we plan to hold talk events featuring people we've connected with through the creation of the Tokyo Ariake store and preparations for the opening, as well as workshops on making dustcloths and sacred ropes. We will also set up a MUJI TRAVEL corner to introduce the various initiatives we've been working on in the Boso area of Chiba Prefecture to residents of the bay area. Together with Boso residents who share our vision, we hope to create an opportunity for people living in Tokyo to become involved in the local community by learning about and participating in initiatives aimed at enhancing the area's appeal and resolving its problems, while enjoying the area's nature, culture, and people. (8) [Urban Development] Initiatives with Koto Ward Koto Ward is actively engaged in environmental initiatives, including secondhand clothing, food waste reduction, eliminating plastic, waste sorting, and recycling. As a store located in the area, Tokyo Ariake will consider what it can do to contribute, working with Koto Ward to reduce waste and create a resource-circulating society. As a first step, we will expand the scope of used clothing collection, which has previously been limited to products purchased at MUJI stores, and will begin accepting unwanted clothing at our stores, regardless of the store where it was purchased, to be reused and recycled both domestically and overseas, or processed into industrial rags or raw materials for cotton and felt.

Pre-opening Exclusively for MUJI Passport Members
In order to avoid congestion immediately after the grand opening as much as possible and allow customers to enjoy shopping with peace of mind, we will be holding a pre-opening on December 1st and 2nd prior to the grand opening. MUJI passport members who follow MUJI Tokyo Ariake will be entered into a lottery to win an invitation. Details will be announced via MUJI passport as soon as they are finalized, so please take this opportunity to follow the store.

COVID-19 Infection Prevention Measures
To ensure customers can shop safely at Tokyo Ariake, we are taking various measures, including cleaning and disinfecting the store and managing the health of our employees. We also limit entry depending on the situation, increasing the number of self-checkouts, installing bakery registers that automatically check out using image recognition, and introducing product pickup lockers to reduce direct contact and make shopping more convenient. We have also set up a new, contactless play area made from off-cuts from MUJI furniture, where children can enjoy looking and listening, so that families can spend time in the store.
