A fusion of gallery and cafe: Warehouse Terrada opens art cafe "WHAT CAFE" in Tennoz

Oct 14, 2020
Warehouse TERRADA Co., Ltd. will open the art cafe "WHAT CAFE" on October 15, 2020, as part of its art and culture promotion initiative.

With art storage as its core business, we have expanded our support services to preserve artists' passion and the value embodied in artworks for future generations, including art restoration, packaging, transportation, and exhibitions. The newly opened "WHAT CAFE" is a new art and culture promotion facility aimed at supporting artists who represent the future of the art industry. Combining a gallery and cafe, the 800-square-meter art space allows visitors to view and purchase works by artists who are the future of Japan's art industry while enjoying food and drinks. All artworks will be rotated every exhibition period, providing numerous artists with the opportunity to showcase and sell their works, and visitors with a place to encounter hundreds of works throughout the year. Prices range from ¥50,000 to ¥200,000. By developing a cafe space dedicated to art, where visitors can casually experience a variety of art, we hope to create an opportunity for one-of-a-kind works to enrich their lifestyles.

Through the operation of art and culture dissemination facilities such as the art supply lab "PIGMENT TOKYO" and Japan's largest gallery complex "TERRADA ART COMPLEX," our company is working to develop Tennozu into a major art hub. "WHAT," a contemporary art collectors' museum, and our "WHAT CAFE," which will open on December 12th, are the first private companies to receive planning approval as cultural tourism base facilities under the "Cultural Tourism Promotion Act," which is led by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Japan Tourism Agency. Going forward, we will continue to create venues for exhibitions open to a wider range of art fans, including artists, collectors, and galleries, the main stakeholders of contemporary art, with the aim of revitalizing Japan's art market. 。 English:
