From June 10th to July 2nd, CCCSCD Gallery in Okayama Prefecture will host an exhibition celebrating the publication of sculptor Koizumi Satoru's collection. A journey to visit the homes of collectors who own Koizumi Satoru's works began with a certain incident. A collection of Koizumi's works, "In the Houses of Works - The Dwellings of Animals" (published by Akaaka Art Publishing), featuring scenes featuring Koizumi's works encountered during his travels in Taiwan and throughout Japan, will be published on June 16th. To commemorate the publication, this exhibition features nine of Koizumi Satoru's works, including new ones, as well as ten photographs taken during the trip by photographer Uchida Shinichiro, including some not previously included in this book. Both artists will be present at the opening. Koizumi's signature wooden sculptures of children clad in animal skins are displayed in some spaces alongside children's toys, and in others alongside modern furniture. Their vacant, innocent expressions make them seem both humanlike and mysterious. However, these "beasts" seem to fit in perfectly with their respective "homes."
Koizumi Satoru was born in Miyagi Prefecture in 1983. He graduated from the Graduate School of Sculpture at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. While still a student, he won the Excellence Award and Special Jury Prize at the 2007 "ART MEETS ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION (AAC)." He currently exhibits in galleries throughout Japan, as well as at art fairs overseas in the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and other countries.
