A collaboration between a popular chef and a ceramic artist. "King's Breakfast" event held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi

Mar 4, 2014

Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store will host "Breakfast Like a King: 7 Days of Recipes" from March 5th to 18th in the kitchenware section on the 5th floor of the main building. The event, themed around "soup and staple foods," features recipes created by four chefs for each day of the week, along with a focus on the tableware and utensils that enhance breakfast time and space.

This event was conceived with the desire to encourage people to enjoy breakfast, an important source of energy and a great start to the day, in keeping with the American nutritionist Adel Davis's maxim, "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper."

Specially for this event, 20 artists have created original soup bowls. Popular artists such as Aiko Miura, Yuko Ikeda, and Yumiko Shimoya will be featured (limited to 10 pieces each). The bowls are designed to evoke a spring breakfast and are sized to beautifully hold a single serving of soup (approximately 200ml). Additionally, a dish tray for soup and main dish is available, designed for a compact breakfast on one plate. To enhance the beauty of food, the tray (25 x 35 cm) was specially crafted by four artists, including Kazunori Takatsuka, based on the "Yamato ratio (1:1.4)," an ancient Japanese aesthetic indicator used in Buddhist statues, architecture, and flower arrangements, and the "7:3" ratio, considered optimal for the space between food and the tableware. (Limited to 50 pieces.) Also on display are cookware ideal for slow cooking, including soup. Cast iron enamel pots and frying pans from Staub, Le Creuset, and Chasseur are available, as well as a new version of the handheld food processor "Bammix," which last month saw its first major upgrade in several years. The recipes were created by Akiko Sakata, Yoko Furuta, Yuko Watanabe, and Shiho Nakashima. Chefs active on the front lines of fashion magazines and advertising will use seasonal spring vegetables to propose original recipes tailored to the mood of each day of the week. During the event, a cooking talk show will also be held with the theme "Breakfast and a Wonderful Life." You can enjoy demonstrations and tastings by Sakata on March 8th, Furuta on the 9th, Watanabe on the 15th, and Nakashima on the 16th. The event will run from 1pm to 2pm each day.
