The seventh guest was Masaaki Homma, designer of mastermind JAPAN, who presented a lavish runway show featuring over 100 figures accompanied by an orchestra at the SENSE Festival held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium on February 23rd. Moriya commented, "I was discouraged many times while trying to make the festival a reality. Homma helped me every time." To which Moriya replied, "Even at mastermind, we are very conscious of originality, and I empathized with the independent attitude of SENSE, which decided to try something new for the first time." While his future plans are undecided, he commented, "If it makes our customers happy, I'm ready to get started tomorrow." The eighth guest was Yasuhiro Mihara, designer of MIHARAYASUHIRO, currently presenting his collection in Paris. Mihara's style is one in which he doesn't create standard items, but instead proposes an entirely new collection each season. "I once made a simple shirt with a small accent on the chest, but it didn't sell at all. It seems like people don't want classics from me. I also wear simple white shirts," he said, drawing laughter from the audience. He also revealed a serious side, saying, "I sometimes communicate with the world not in Japanese or English, but in the language of fashion." The final performer was Masashi Watanabe of BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS, decked out in all-blue outfits. Moriya commented, "BEDWIN has many classic pants," to which Watanabe replied, "They're an important element in men's fashion, where there aren't many items to choose from. I also have pants inspired by my favorite skate culture." When asked about his image of "black," the color used in the project's title, Watanabe said, "For me, black is a strong color, so strong that it overshadows my own individuality. While I like it, it's also a difficult color." Back to 1/3
