Wolford, an Austrian legwear brand known for its world-class quality and often referred to as "haute couture stockings," held its grand opening of its only street-level store in Japan on March 15th on Namiki-dori Street in Ginza, Tokyo (7-5-5 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo). The brand was founded in 1950. While incorporating cutting-edge technology, the final process of producing stockings, which pursue both beautiful lines and functionality, is still completed by artisans, with each pair taking an average of 2.5 hours to complete. The high quality of the stockings has garnered praise, with many saying, "Once you try them, you'll never want to stop," and the brand now operates approximately 260 stores in approximately 70 countries worldwide. A reception event was held on the 14th ahead of the opening at the Ginza restaurant and bar, Suikyoutei. Valeriano Ziglio, International Manager of Wolford's Wholesale Division, visited Japan for the event and said, "We are delighted to be able to celebrate this occasion. 'High quality' is the most important part of our brand, and we strive for it every day, so I'm sure we can satisfy everyone."
The event also featured a show of the 14 Spring/Summer collection. This season, the brand expressed a natural femininity, drawing inspiration from the elegant style of Marisa Berenson, granddaughter of legendary couturier Elsa Schiaparelli and a fashion icon in the 1960s and 1970s. The 1970s style incorporated a flare of ethnic and colonial flair, accented with bright colors and gold ornaments. The show featured a glittering floor as the runway, showcasing white shirt and skirt styles, feminine dresses, and the "MARCHESA TIGHTS" (23,000 yen) stockings with a black background and large glitter dots, all set to Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" (feat. Pharrell Williams). In addition to stockings, the collection also offers a wide range of other products. The lingerie lineup includes push-up bras and slips with shaping functions, and this season's collection features an abundance of delicate tulle and floral lace. Accessories such as scarves, gloves, and leather belts are also available.
To commemorate the store's opening, two types of stockings will be sold exclusively at the Ginza store: "SERENA TIGHTS" (10,000 yen), which feature large oval dots that add impact to simple outfits, and the feminine "BOOTLACE TIGHTS" (20,000 yen), which feature dotted tights with ribbons knitted into them.
Business hours are from 12:00 to 20:00, and the store is closed on the first Monday of each month (second Monday if that Monday falls on a public holiday, and only during the New Year holidays from December to January). The store is managed by Fukusuke.
