Yuji Hamada's solo exhibition, capturing moments that could not be captured in photographs, will be held at Omotesando Rocket

Jul 11, 2016

Photographer Yuji Hamada's solo exhibition "36 lights #01" will be held from July 15th to 27th at Gallery Omotesando Rocket on the third floor of Dojunkan in Omotesando Hills.

Yuji Hamada is a photographer who creates photographs based on the questions, "What does it mean to 'see'? What does it mean to 'not see'?" In 2014, he exhibited at the "Images" photo festival in Vevey, Switzerland, and in 2015 at the Aix-en-Provence Photo Festival in France and the Condé Nast Gallery in New York. His photo book "photograph" was a finalist in the "Aperture/Paris Photo First PhotoBook Award 2014," and he is active both in Japan and abroad.

This solo exhibition will feature the "36 lights" series, which he began shooting in 2014. The works are presented unedited, showing the flow of time as it was taken on a single roll of 36 exposures. By following the flow of time captured at each of the places the photographer visited as a tourist, viewers can sense the invisible but certainly present things that lie between the photographs, things that did not make it into the photographs.
