Yuima Nakazato presented his haute couture collection as an official guest member of Paris Couture Fashion Week for the first time. The venue was the Yoyo audio-visual room at the Palais de Tokyo. Invited by the Couture Union, he is the first Japanese couturier to be featured on the official schedule since Hanae Mori 12 years ago. Born in 1985, Yuima Nakazato graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. A renowned designer, he has competed in the Diesel-sponsored fashion competition for two consecutive years. After returning to Japan, he founded his own brand and has designed costumes for artists such as Fergie, Lady Gaga, and EXILE. Inspired by Icelandic glaciers and the aurora borealis, the collection featured many of Nakazato's iconic holographic films. Each element is organic and complex. Only a few pieces can be cut per day with a laser, and hundreds of them are attached to 3D printed body parts to create a voluminous silhouette. Fujifilm's technology was utilized for the material printed with photos of Icelandic glaciers. While utilizing technology, the collection showcased the beauty of handcrafted work that took an enormous amount of time, demonstrating a new way of couture.
