GANRYU's functional street core collection, a timeless piece for men (SS17)

Jul 22, 2016

Like last season, GUNRYU's SS17 collection kicked off with reconstructed denim using selvedge denim.

Workwear-inspired materials and pieces, such as indigo denim, hickory stripes, cotton twill, and sweatshirts, were coolly combined with elaborate patchwork and irregular patterns, showcasing a graphic technique. The bottoms that tie the overall styling together are exquisitely balanced.

This season, items were exclusively available for men. All models wore glam makeup, and the graphic patterns on the striped and gingham check shirts were patterned in a Memphis style. The color palette of neon-colored cotton satin pieces and geo-metallic knitwear evoke the era when London New Wave clubbers of the early '80s looked to preppy fashion sources.

Rather than simply tapping into fashion nostalgia, the brand's signature elements appeared throughout, such as transforming outerwear into accessories with carabiners and straps. Unlike punk bondage pants, which have no functionality whatsoever, these pants are designed to function in the city or at festivals, and are in tune with the times, fully expressing the brand's position and talent.
