"Snoopy x Japanese Craftsmen" Exhibition to be held at Matsuya Ginza, featuring Snoopy in Kutani ware and Wajima lacquerware!

Apr 8, 2013

An exhibition featuring Snoopy, the popular character from the American newspaper comic strip "Peanuts," will open at Matsuya Ginza on April 17th, showcasing his first collaboration with Japanese artisans. The project is led by Japanese artist Yoshiteru Otani, who was praised as a "genius" by Peanuts creator Charles Monroe Schulz. Otani, who has a deep connection with "Peanuts," including including iconic works in the construction project for the Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, California, collaborated with 40 traditional Japanese craftsmen across Japan, including lacquerware, glass cut glass, yuzen lacquerware, ceramics, and pearls. The exhibition will feature over 100 pieces, including 40 works by Japanese artisans, including Kutani ware, Wajima lacquerware, and gold leaf sand, each of which took over a year to complete. In addition, Otani's ink-wash art featuring Snoopy on kanji characters and paper cutouts, including works being shown in Japan for the first time, will also be on display.
