"The Work of Takayuki Takeya," the first exhibition in 13 years by leading Japanese figure sculptor Takayuki Takeya, will open on June 1st at Arts Chiyoda 3331 in Akihabara, Tokyo. The exhibition will feature approximately 80 sculptures used in his collection "Fisherman's Angle" (Kodansha), published on April 23rd, as well as his major works, drawings, sketches, and notes from the creative process. A production documentary will also be screened. Exclusive figures will also be available as advance ticket bonuses and at the venue. Takayuki Takeya was born in Hokkaido in 1963 to a fisherman's family. For five years, starting in 1994, he serialized his original works, "Fisherman's Angle," in the model and hobby magazine "S.M.H." His first collection, "Takeya Takayuki Collection: Fisherman's Angle," was released by Hobby Japan in 1999, and the following year, in 2000, he held an exhibition at Shibuya Parco. He has worked on design models for "Kamen Rider" and "Final Fantasy," art design for the film "Garo," and the creation of the Giant God Warrior concept model for Hideaki Anno's "Giant God Warrior Appears in Tokyo." Since last year, Kaiyodo's "Revoltech Takeya" series has attracted attention with its fully articulated Buddhist statues. He has many fans overseas, with Nike president Mark Parker visiting Takeya's home in search of his work.
