Regarding the Japan Genki Project 2020
Kansai Yamamoto, Executive Committee Chairman of the Japan Genki Project 2020, passed away on July 21, 2020 due to acute myeloid leukemia. We would like to once again express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Kansai Yamamoto over the years.
To be incredibly energetic, without any logic to it

For Kansai, a "show" was a way to express the overwhelming energy he himself possesses, by getting many people involved. He valued "feeling with the five senses," and truly enjoyed seeing, hearing, and communicating with the people he met. For him, creation was about sublimating the energy he built up in this way in various forms, such as fashion, music, and dance. Kansai's creations cheer someone up, and the person who receives energy from Kansai then relays that energy to someone else...
For such a person as Kansai, his life as a fighter during the COVID-19 pandemic must have been extremely difficult. Even so, we were always encouraged by the way he continued to give instructions from his hospital bed, encouraging the staff by saying, "We'll make the event happen no matter what!" On the day of the pre-recording in early July, Kansai called the staff to encourage them, asking, "Are you doing your best?" For him, the "show" was the super energy that kept him alive!! After the recording, he marked July 31st with a ◎ on the calendar in his hospital room, and looked forward to the day.
All the staff are truly disappointed that we were unable to be together on the day, but we would like to deliver a work filled with Kansai's thoughts to everyone, and to Kansai himself.

Supportive comments from specialists in various fields, including world-renowned designers ANNA SUI and Marc Jacobs, are now available on the official website!

When I visited Asia for the first time on business, there was a reason I really wanted to stop by Tokyo. I wanted to visit the shop of Kansai, my favorite designer. I love his magical clothes, which give energy to those who wear them. Just as Kansai inspired me and gave me dreams, I'm sure the Japan Genki Project will be a great inspiration for young designers and those aspiring to become designers. Everyone, you have to live your dreams!! (Excerpt)
Fashion Designer ANNA SUI

When I was 17, I was fortunate enough to be introduced to Kansai-san. I was a student at Parsons School of Design in New York at the time, and a huge fan of Kansai-san's unique creativity. I remember that he really resonated with my youthful energy and passion for design. He then gave me the dream opportunity to plan and organize a "Happening/after-party" to celebrate "The Kansai Restaurant," an imaginary place that would become the theme of his next collection. I remain filled with gratitude to Kansai-san for recognizing my talent when I was still just a young man.
Kansai gave me the wings to soar as a designer. (Excerpt)
