The lead feature of the May issue of MdN (on sale April 6th), a comprehensive information magazine for design and graphics, is "Experience the Future, Its Mechanism: Art x Technology."
This feature introduces various works that combine cutting-edge technology and art in a fun and easy-to-understand manner. In "Learn about Art x Technology with Actress Yuina Kuroshima," we experience the teamLab Dance! Art Exhibition and Learn! Future Amusement Park exhibition, which runs until May 10th at Odaiba. teamLab explains the mechanisms of the works, behind-the-scenes production, and the relationship between art and people in a digital society.
In "Experience the Future! Its Mechanism!!," we have a conversation between MIKIKO, the choreographer responsible for Perfume's choreography, and Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks, who directs the group's live performances, including projection mapping. They are exploring new performance techniques, such as a performance that linked the movements of dancers with drones (small unmanned aerial vehicles), which was also used at the 2014 Red and White Song Battle.
Other features include "OMOTE," a futuristic makeup technique that precisely tracks a person's face and projects 3D images that fit perfectly onto the face, and the technology used in "Ingress," which turns the entire world into a game field using maps and location information. The book also includes a diverse range of content, including "A Reverse Half-Century Chronology of Japanese Media Art," which traces the history of media art with Uma Sadanori, author of the book "History of Japanese Media Art," as well as "Places to Experience Art and Technology" and "Tools You Can Buy and Technology Prices."
