Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, USA. He died on June 25, 2009. He was the eighth of ten children. Although his family was poor, his father, who recognized his children's talent, encouraged him to form a vocal group with his four older brothers in 1962. He debuted as part of the Jackson 5 in 1966, and his major label debut, "I Want You Back," reached number one on the US singles chart in 1969. He made his solo debut with the album "Got to Be There" in 1972. His 1982 album "Thriller" topped the charts in the US, UK, Japan, and other countries, selling 100 million copies worldwide. It is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling album of all time, and has won eight Grammy Awards, the most in history. His follow-up album, "Bad," released in 1987, was a massive hit, selling over 30 million copies worldwide, earning him the nickname "King of Pop." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 as part of the Jackson 5, and in 2001, individually. His personal life was also known for its many scandals. He married Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1994 but divorced two years later. He then remarried Debbie Rowe, who worked at a hospital, in 1996 and had one son and one daughter, but divorced in 1999. He also frequently made headlines for allegations of child abuse, sexually abusing the boys he gathered at his estate, "Neverland," and undergoing repeated plastic surgery. In 2009, he performed in London for the first time in 12 years, selling out approximately 1.1 million tickets on the same day. However, on June 25th, just before the concert, he collapsed at home and died in hospital. He was 50 years old. As a result, the London concert never took place, but the film "THIS IS IT," which contained footage of rehearsals up until two days before his death, was released simultaneously worldwide in October of the same year and became a huge hit.
