A new skater brand, Palm Angels, has been launched by photographer and Moncler art director Francesco Ragazzi. It will open its first pop-up shops in Japan in three locations.
The Palm Angels project began when Ragazzi was inspired by the unique atmosphere of Venice Beach and Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles and the customs of the people who live there, especially the skaters. Ragazzi photographed skaters from 2011 to 2013, and published a photo book titled "Palm Angels." Following on from that, the brand released its debut collection in January of this year.
The debut collection, the 2015-2016 Fall/Winter collection, is inspired by a preppy style that matches the atmosphere of the 1970s. The lineup includes cropped pants with gold detailing, a shirt with fine stitched pleats on the front, and a jacket with a marijuana leaf, a symbol of skate culture, lavishly embroidered on the back. There will also be a fitted denim jacket with a large print of one of Palm Angels' signature pieces.
The pop-ups will be held at Dover Street Market Ginza (DSMG) from June 11th to 24th, at ESTNATION Roppongi Hills from June 26th to July 5th, and at UNITED ARROWS & SONS from July 10th to 20th.
