On June 12th, MILK and MILK BOY held their 2015 Autumn Collection shows at Harajuku Quest Hall. The theme was "MY ANGEL FLY WITH ME." This was the brand's first line-up show in six years.
The show was based on five key themes: "Halloween," "Gremlin," "Trad," "Punk," and "Angel." The lights went down, and two male models slowly parted the stage curtains. Two female models then surveyed the venue from the stage, marking the start of the show.
The first theme, "Halloween," featured styling inspired by the stars and moon that shine after nightfall. Gold stars and moons sparkled on navy dresses reminiscent of the night sky, and star motifs were also adorned on knee-high socks and pochettes, creating a fantastical atmosphere. The next collection, "Gremlin," was centered around the 2015 Autumn Collection, "MILK BOY." It included high-gauge knitwear with a Gremlin design on the chest, as well as Gremlin-patterned jersey tops and bottoms. At one point, a model holding a Gremlin smartphone case took photos of the audience from the runway, adding to the lively atmosphere of a show. The final Gremlin look featured a bold outerwear design, with a long, furry Gremlin seemingly coming to life, eliciting a roar. "Trad" featured pieces with argyle and tartan motifs. Even within the simple silhouettes, girly elements were incorporated into the details, such as heart-shaped pockets, bright red lip designs on white tights, and shoes with 3D hearts on the heels. Next, we jumped straight into the black and white world of "Punk." The collection also featured autumn/winter styling, with monochrome dresses and knee-high socks featuring musical notes paired with earmuffs and knit caps. In addition to the musical note motif, the men's lineup also featured skull-motif fur mufflers.
The "Angel" look began with the soaring voice of an aria echoing through the venue. Romantic colors, such as pale organza and ruffles, were striking. Styling also evoked the brand's beloved Harajuku neighborhood, with ruffled pants coordinated with a pale blue varsity jacket and cap.
The show concluded with a model in a wedding dress, holding a birdcage, slowly walking down the runway, bringing the show to a close in front of an audience of approximately 700.
The 30-minute show, featuring 88 looks, was directed by Milk and Milk Boy director Hitomi Okawa. Music was by Hiroshi Fujiwara, and hair and makeup by Noboru Tomizawa.
FASHION HEADLINE will be conducting exclusive coverage of the backstage on the day of the show. The backstage report will be released at a later date.
