New Balance collaborates with Chie Morimoto to create live painting on the classic 80s shoe "620"

Jun 17, 2015

New Balance will release the "CW620" (¥12,000) in July, a collaboration with communication director and art director Chie Morimoto. The concept of this collaborative shoe is "MOTION EMOTION." Morimoto's vision for New Balance is "a being with ever-changing emotions. Walking, jumping, stomping, standing, laughing, getting angry, embracing...the close connection between these fluctuating emotions and actions. It embodies her desire to capture the moment when a sound or story is born in New Balance, as if holding hands allows you to understand the other person's feelings." Morimoto used live painting techniques to create the design, using the "620," a slim-profile retro running shoe that was popular in the 1980s as a lightweight shoe, as a canvas. The shoes are available in two base colors: black and white. Dynamic graphics, from the upper to the insole, complete a unique look from the feet up. The shoes are available in women's sizes from 22.0cm to 25.0cm. To commemorate the collaboration, a sale for the shoes will be held at the United Arrows Harajuku flagship store's women's section from July 17th to 26th.
