June is Pride Month! Spotify launches "Pride" section, featuring podcasts by LGBTQIA+ creators

Jun 11, 2020
June is "Pride Month," a month when various awareness-raising activities about LGBTQIA+ rights and culture are held around the world.

Spotify has set up a "Pride" section within its app, featuring playlists from Japan and abroad that serve as the soundtrack for Pride Month, as well as podcasts by LGBTQIA+ creators.

In this article, we'll introduce newly selected and released Japanese playlists to mark the start of this year's "Pride Month."

"Let's March Again"

"Let's March Again" is a playlist spotlighting notable LGBTQIA+ artists, curated by film and music writer Takeshi Kizu, who actively writes about LGBTQIA+ culture. The cover features London-based pop singer Rina Sawayama. She's supported by Spotify's domestic "Early Noise" and global "RADAR" new talent support programs, and is also a rising fashion icon.

"Akina Nakamori the B-EST by Mitz Mangrove"

"Akina Nakamori the B-EST by Mitz Mangrove," a collection of Akina Nakamori single B-sides selected by Mitz Mangrove, is a playlist for Akina enthusiasts featuring the B-sides of well-known singles.

Comment from Mitz Mangrove
Akina often had the A-side and B-side suddenly reversed after recording. It's precisely because they were back-to-back that the real warmth and emotion of her music come across so clearly. And enjoy the charm of her voice, which will make you feel it all over again.

Let's Party Again Series

The "Let's Party Again Series" is a playlist series that spotlights club events that promote unique queer culture. Three new playlists have been released: "DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER," "Onee Style Dungeon," and "MOTORPOOL."

In addition to this, there is a wide lineup of playlists and podcasts from Japan and abroad. If you want to know more, be sure to check out Spotify's "Pride" section.
