Sony's first-ever virtual festival will be held at Beams, with live music venues

Dec 14, 2012

Sony Marketing will host the "Headphone Music Festival," a smartphone- and headphone-based event, starting December 20, 2012. This will be the first-ever attempt at augmented reality (AR) video content using live-action 3D layers. The festival will take place at 18 BEAMS stores nationwide, on the streets of Shibuya, Sony Stores (Osaka and Nagoya), and the Sony showroom in Ginza, Tokyo. By downloading the dedicated app, plugging in headphones, and holding your smartphone over a poster of the artist you want to listen to, you can experience the event's unique stage performance. Even if you can't attend the festival in person, you can still watch the live performance on a special website that opened on the 13th of this month. A "Headphone Monitor Campaign" is currently underway. Log in with your social media account and create an official pass for a chance to win headphones. As a collaboration with the festival, AR festival T-shirts will be sold at the BEAMS stores where the festival will be held. By holding your smartphone over the AR marker on the T-shirt, you can enjoy the live performance anywhere. Some BEAMS stores will also have Sony headphones on display, allowing you to experience the difference in sound field.
