21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3 in Roppongi, Tokyo, is hosting Tokujin Yoshioka's first exhibition in four years, "Tokujin Yoshioka: FLAME − Glass Torch and Monument."

Tokujin Yoshioka is an internationally active artist in the fields of design, architecture, and art. He has created works using "light," a material that transcends the concept of form, with a unique sense of transparency. For the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, his design for the Olympic Torch relay, featuring a cherry blossom motif, generated significant buzz.
This exhibition focuses on the "light" emitted from flames and presents new works, "Glass Torch" and "Fire Monument x Glass Torch." Created from transparent glass structures unlike any other in the world, these torches and monuments were created for the ceremony of SAGA2024, the National Sports Festival (formerly the National Athletic Meet), to be held in 2024.
In addition, Yoshioka's signature glass bench "Water Block" will be on display, as well as clothing designed by MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO for the flame lighting ceremony. During the event, a special event will be held to light the "Flame Monument x Glass Torch" installed outdoors.
