Penguin Kumano Fude (Kumano Brush) makeup brushes are carefully and lovingly crafted, one by one, by artisans in Kumano Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan's leading brush-producing region, boasting traditional techniques that have been passed down through the ages. Now, we are introducing a face brush featuring a penguin motif drawn by illustrator Sakazaki Chiharu.

Artisans carefully hand-shape the black and white raw wool without cutting the tips, creating an adorable penguin face at the tip of the bristles. The barrel is made of cherry blossom wood stained matte black, inspired by the penguin. The bottom of the barrel is engraved with a penguin face, just like the tip of the bristles. These meticulously handcrafted face brushes require the skilled techniques of Kumano artisans, making them truly masterpieces worthy of being called works of art. The packaging also features a warm, pasted box. It features a foil-stamped illustration of a penguin holding a Kumano brush, specially created for this product by Chiharu Sakazaki. Kumano calligraphy brushes, Japan's leading brush-producing region, were designated a "Traditional Craft" by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (formerly the Minister of International Trade and Industry) in 1975. By crafting brushes in Kumano, meticulously defining traditional techniques and methods, as well as the raw materials used, Kumano brushes continue to maintain their strong brand presence. "Penguin Kumano Fude (Kumano Brush)" is an exquisite makeup brush that feels soft on the skin. It is meticulously handcrafted by Kumano artisans who continue to use traditional calligraphy brush techniques, which align the bristles without trimming them. When I heard about this collaboration, I was very excited to see what the final product would be. I was amazed at the intricate work involved when I learned that the artisans create the penguin design by arranging each strand of raw wool one by one. Sakazaki Chiharu (Sakazaki Chiharu) Born in Chiba Prefecture. After working in the production department of a stationery manufacturer, she went independent in 1998. Since then, she has worked as a freelance illustrator and picture book author. She has designed characters such as JR East's "Suica Penguin," Chiba Prefecture's mascot "Chiba-kun," Yamato Holdings' "Black Cat and White Cat," and Toho's "Chibi Godzilla." She continues to create works with a penguin motif, and has shown them in exhibitions and other events.
