The traditional Japanese "furoshiki" is a simple, rectangular piece of cloth that can be used to wrap and transport various items, then folded up compactly when finished. Inspired by this wrapping cloth, Vibram's Japanese designer Masaya Hashimoto served as project manager and developed the "FUROSHIKI" shoe, officially named "Vibram FUROSHIKI The Wrapping Sole."

The high performance of Vibram soles is achieved by the "compound" of the rubber they contain. Compound means the mixture. Vibram blends raw materials to provide the grip required for the environment, manipulating factors such as density, hardness, abrasion resistance, and breaking strength, and using this recipe to create soles that are suited to the environment.

While maintaining the quality, durability, grip, and performance that are Vibram's trademarks, more than 90% of the raw materials used are natural. The soles use 100% natural pigments made from plants and by-products from organic farming. This makes them more environmentally friendly than conventional sole materials.
