In 1845, 17-year-old François Goyard traveled from his native Burgundy to Paris to become an apprentice at the famous Maison Morel. Little did he know at the time that eight years later, in 1853, he would take over the business and Maison Goyard would be born. From the very beginning, François Goyard's vision for the Maison was deeply influenced by his family's work as "companions de rivière," transporting firewood by raft from the Morvan forest to Paris.
