The full story of ALCANTARA®'s relationship with art is told in "ALCANTARA THE MATERIAL OF ART" (Skira editore, edited by Luca Masia), published by Skira in December last year, supervised by Luca Masia. However, this archive exhibition, titled "Visioni Tattili (Tangible Visions)," allows visitors to see part of the journey between ALCANTARA® and art, which has taken place in various parts of the world over the past 10 years, together with artists, curators, and museums.

Two of the four works on display at "Visioni Tattili" were first shown in 2019 in the Arazzi Halls of the Royal Palace of Milan as part of the exhibition "De Coding," curated by Domitilla Dardi and Angela Rui. They offer a unique exhibition concept that explores the qualities of ALCANTARA® as a material for art and design.

Since its debut in 2019, Constance Guisset's immersive installation "Scylla" has captivated audiences with its powerful presence and the unique texture of the material. The tapestry, which appears to have come to life, dominates the space with fins and tentacles that converge in its center. The unique texture of the ALCANTARA® creates a form resembling a kind of extraordinary chimera.

The core of this "Visioni Tattili" exhibition is made up of works inspired by the ancient art of calligraphy. All of these works were exhibited at the art exhibition "Out of the Blue - A Journey into Calligraphy with Alcantara", held at the Palazzo Royale in Milan in 2020 and curated by Dagmar Carnevale Lavezzoli and Katie Hill.

One of these is "Sign, Symbols, and Scripts," by QU LEI LEI, inspired by the tradition of Chinese calligraphy, featuring ancient pictograms and collage techniques on ALCANTARA®.

Zhang Chun Hong's "Fall" skillfully combines human and natural elements to create a hybrid. The motif, a flowing hair, is depicted in a thin, symmetrical stroke style, allowing the viewer to step into the work. The installation evolves through light and shadow, the human body, and the natural world, transforming flowing hairlines into a representation of water. In traditional Chinese culture, hair is associated with life, evoking notions of temporality and continuity inherent in Buddhist thought. Combining calligraphic brushstrokes with the archetypal qualities of traditional Chinese landscape painting, the waterfall, through ALCANTARA®, offers a vision of nature, the body, and calligraphy becoming inseparable.

Qin Feng's work, "Infinity of Temples," is created using a technique similar to dripping, consisting of sketches, traces, and sprays. Utilizing the immediacy of the action, it presents a work that is not based on an idea in the creative process, but rather an immediate expression of that idea itself.

ALCANTARA® is a material that can be a special medium, inspiring artists and designers worldwide. This art exhibition reveals to IULM University and its students its unique and functional qualities, as well as its innate aesthetic appeal.

Andrea Boragno, Chairman and CEO of Alcantara, said, "We are pleased to begin this partnership with IULM University. We share the same drive for constant innovation and the pursuit of beauty in all forms and languages, and we are convinced that our materials will provide great inspiration for the creators and communicators of the future who will study here."

"ALCANTARA® is a ductile material with unique functional applications, but also suitable as a medium for various expressive languages. This is why our university decided to hold an exhibition to coincide with Milan Design Week 2023. We hope to create an example of the synergy between the needs of industry and art, conveying that nothing useful or useful exists without engaging in a dialogue with and engaging with beauty."
