The special art event "UENOYES2019 “FLOATING NOMAD”," produced by contemporary artist Hibino Katsuhiko and directed by fashion designer Yamagata Yoshikazu, will be held for two days on November 9th and 10th at Takenodai Square (Fountain Square) in Ueno Park.


"UENOYES" is a cultural and artistic project based on the theme of social inclusion, set in Ueno Park and the surrounding area. It aims to promote the charm of Ueno to the world. As part of this, "Uenoes 2019" is a two-day special art event, held following last year's, under the general production of Katsuhiko Hibino. The theme is "FLOATING NOMAD." It evokes the image of people from diverse backgrounds and countries gathering in the open space of Ueno Park, dressed in their own unique attire, like nomads, expressing diversity through their expressions and actions, creating an inclusive art event that fosters interaction and learning. The "Cardboard Object Site," which serves as the venue's landmark and workshop space, was created and installed under Hibino's supervision and direction by a mixed team consisting mainly of students from the DOOR Project at Tokyo University of the Arts and coconogacco, a private fashion school run by Yamagata. Other planned themes include a photo exhibition of "Silk Road" by Kishin Shinoyama, tracing the Silk Road from Nara to Turkey via Beijing, Urumqi, Persepolis, and Palmyra; "DOMMUNE UENOYES," a two-day-only event featuring live streaming studio DOMMUNE, offering exclusive special programs; and a photo exhibition by French photographer Charles Fréger. One of the highlights of the event is the latest collection from Yamagata's label writtenafterwards, which will be presented in a fashion show format at the fountain pond from 5:00 PM on November 9th. This will be the brand's first fashion show in two years, showcasing the culmination of a trilogy themed on "modern witches," which began last year. At the fountain in Takenodai Square in Ueno Onshi Park, where the event will be held, people in various outfits will appear like floating nomads, performing an inclusive fashion show that embodies the theme.
