New items from the NikeCraft collaboration between artist Tom Sachs and Nike will be released on April 27th. Tom Sachs' "Tea Ceremony" exhibition has been running at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery since April 20th.
The collaboration between the two companies was first announced in 2012. The new items being released this time include three styles: the Nike Mars Yard Overshoe (59,400 yen), the Nike x Tom Sachs Poncho (54,000 yen), and the Nike x Tom Sachs Beanie (6,480 yen).
The Mars Yard Overshoe was born from Sachs's idea to address the frustration of cold, wet feet in bad weather. The overshoe, which protects against rain and other elements, is made of Dyneema, a high-strength fiber used in boat ropes and sails. It can be folded over to eliminate internal moisture caused by temperature fluctuations. The outsole is thick and features small slits at the tread for improved grip.
At first glance, the Nike x Tom Sachs Poncho looks like a waist bag, but by releasing the safety button on the front and pulling the colored cord, the poncho opens like a parachute to protect against wind and rain. The back is printed with the words "MADE IN VIETNAM" in large letters.
Items will be available at NIKE.COM/NIKELAB, SNKRS, and the Minami-Aoyama flagship store NikeLab MA5 (NIKELAB The store will be rolled out sequentially to MA5 and Dover Street Market Ginza.
