The solo exhibition "Olden Time: Now is a Wonderful Time" by nici, an art unit consisting of Aoki Yukari and Mitani Kiriko, will open on May 1st at BLOCK HOUSE in Harajuku.

NICI was formed in Tokyo in 2013. Drawing inspiration from the environment and surrounding cities, they pursue the beauty of phenomena that emerge through experiments using familiar materials, aiming to create works that challenge the images that people naturally create in their daily lives.
They have previously exhibited their works at the Art in Container International Exhibition at the Kobe Biennale 2015. This exhibition marks the artist's second solo exhibition, following "I Want to Go All Out," held in 2017. He attempts to reconfigure his previously exhibited works to suit the unique architectural space of BLOCK HOUSE.
The exhibition will run for a few hours, from sunset to sunrise, and two installation works will be displayed amid the changing natural light. A tea room will be set up on the top floor of the building, and new works will be unveiled with the Harajuku streetscape in front of them. In the midst of the quiet atmosphere of Harajuku, he will question the relationship between the work and its environment.

nici is participating in ankART AIR 2019, an artist-in-residence program where she will be based at BankART SILK in Yokohama and other locations for approximately two months from April 1st to June 12th. BankART SILK will be open as an open studio from May 31st to June 9th.
