This marks Virgil Abloh's first pre-collection for Louis Vuitton. Tokyo, a melting pot where past, present, and future intersect, serves as the overall motif. Everyday scenes, such as uniforms seen in Japan's public service, outdoor life, and sports, serve as inspiration for wardrobe staples and colors. Graphics also pay homage to Japan.
Multi-emblem windbreakers, shirts, and T-shirts are inspired by jackets worn in radio-controlled boat races. Trench coats and parkas are crafted from navy Japanese waterproof fabric and black leather, embracing the dress code of water sports, along with a bright blue lightweight hooded leather parka.
Collegiate bomber jackets are reinterpreted in purple check and taupe fox fur, while black leather aviator jackets feature white shearling and python tape. A collection-inspired interpretation of a fleece jacket is the blouson, crafted from off-white felted shearling with red velour pockets.

With boyhood as one of his themes, Virgil Abloh introduces new pieces featuring outerwear, tailoring, and 3D renderings of navy and orange harnesses, reflecting the idea of clothing enveloping a boy in the first stages of life. The tailoring incorporates his signature concepts of creases and mid-layering, reinterpreting a blazer, trousers, and harness as a three-piece suit. The trousers are reinterpreted in various ways, including ankle slits, classic cargo pants, and inside-out pockets.

"Accessomorphosis" is a word that combines "accessory" and "morphosis" (change), and refers to the fusion of the two qualities by transforming clothing into a bag, and appears throughout the collection. The Fall/Winter 2019 Pre-Collection also introduces "Compressomorphosis," a wrapper bag that compresses garments for travel. Also featured are reworked bags from the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, available in navy, ochre, and purple "Monogram Denim" and embossed black leather. Flat totes and crossbody messengers are inspired by disposable bags, while chalk bags, mini crossbody bags, and backpacks subtly reference bags used in extreme sports. Also featured were a hybrid of hiking boots and sneakers, and camel nubuck ankle boots, a pointed-toe reinterpretation of classic work boots. Normcore (the ultimate standard) was present throughout the fashion jewelry collection, with square-shaped logo rings made of purple and aqua crystals reminiscent of traditional engagement rings, and chain bracelets evolved with interlocking links in crystal, gold, "Monogram" motifs, and blue and orange enamel.
