On May 6th, Louis Vuitton held its 2016 Cruise Collection show in Palm Springs, California. The venue was The Bob and Dolores Hope Estate, a landmark mansion in Palm Springs, California, designed by architect John Lautner. This marked the first time a fashion show had been held there. This collection, Nicolas Ghesquière's second as artistic director, explored a new balance by combining gothic, voluminous silhouettes with body-conscious, fitted silhouettes. The first look featured loose-fitting trousers made of flowing fabric paired with a dropped-shoulder blouse. A thick, crossed belt and a triangular waistband that revealed a hint of bare skin created a sexy yet masculine look. The look was completed with maxi skirts and silk blouses printed with chains, paisley, and floral patterns, paired with sneakers for a light, airy look. Gradually, harder pieces were introduced, such as a black dress with eyelets on the front and belt, and a leather motocross jacket. The symmetrical sleeves of different lengths and large shoulder pads created a wild impression.
Other pieces included a sharply cut prairie dress, a suede box jacket mixed with denim hot pants, and a silk blouse mixed with a front-zip army sweater, expressing American modernism while exploring the possibilities of clothing. Set in a desert paradise, the collection was typical of Ghesquière, who pursues a new image of women each season.
More than 500 guests attended the show, including celebrities such as Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Miranda Kerr, Selena Gomez, Kanye West, and Hidetoshi Nakata.
