"Tane Tsuyoshi | Archaeology of the Future—Image & Imagination," the first solo exhibition in Western Japan by France-based architect Tsuyoshi Tane, will be held at Mitsubishi Jisho Artium in Fukuoka from January 19 to March 10, 2019.

Tane Tsuyoshi is a cutting-edge architect based in France who is currently attracting widespread attention for his projects around the world. While still in his twenties, he won the international design competition for the Estonian National Museum as Dorel Ghotmeh Tane (DGT.). The project was completed in the fall of 2016, nearly ten years after his selection, and his work is gaining further attention both at home and abroad. In 2012, he participated in the international design competition for the New National Stadium (when Zaha Hadid's proposal was selected), and his Kofun Stadium, one of 11 finalists, brought him widespread recognition. After DGT. disbanded in 2017, he established Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects in Paris, further expanding his scope of activities. Tane's projects are driven by the method of "archaeological research," which conceives the future from the memories of a place. His research extends beyond personal and historical facts to focus on memories accumulated over time and place, and the memories that emerge when these fragments connect. This exhibition, titled "Image & Imagination," explores Tane's thought and consideration process, which uses visible images as a guide for research, leading to the leap into the imagination of yet unseen architecture, through numerous documents, models, and video footage.
Based on the belief that "memory moves the present and shapes the future," Tane's creations will inspire each of us, as urban architects, to reflect on the power, mission, and future possibilities of architecture.

On the first day, January 19th, Tane will be speaking at a talk event titled "Archaeology of the Future: Image & Imagination," with Minako Ikeda, Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Design, Kyushu University, as the audience member. The event will be held at the Ajibi Hall in the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. Reservations are required, and the first 120 people will be admitted. The fee is 500 yen. Applications can be made by calling 092-733-2050.
