Shinagawa Yakiimo Terrace 2019
The Shinagawa Yakiimo Terrace, which attracted 43,000 visitors during its previous event in early 2018, is now even more powerful. This year, for its third year, in addition to baked sweet potatoes, the event will feature gourmet dishes that expand the world of sweet potatoes. The venue will also feature the ever-popular "outdoor kotatsu" (heated table with a heater) so you can relax and enjoy your warm baked sweet potatoes. Other potato-related content to enjoy include a first-come, first-served "Imo Kuji" (Potato Lottery) game and a roasted sweet potato photo spot.
For three days from February 1st to 3rd, Kirishima City from Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan's top sweet potato producer, will be holding a product exhibition. "Nettabo (sweet potato mochi)," a local Kagoshima sweet made by mixing freshly pounded mochi with steamed Kagoshima sweet potatoes and sprinkling them with kinako (roasted soybean flour), will be served free of charge (first-come, first-served). There will also be tastings and sales of Kirishima City's specialty, "Kirishima Tea." Grown in a cool environment with severe temperature differences throughout the year, the tea has a mellow sweetness and richness that can be enjoyed.
