Yves Saint Laurent, a leading figure in the global fashion scene, to hold Japan's first major retrospective exhibition

Event Date:2023.09.20-12.11
Dec 13, 2022
The "Yves Saint Laurent Exhibition" will be held at the National Art Center, Tokyo (Roppongi, Tokyo) from September 20 to December 11, 2023.

Following the sudden death of Christian Dior in 1958, Yves Saint Laurent made a stunning debut as the designer of Christian Dior. From the launch of his own brand, Yves Saint Laurent, in 1962 until his retirement in 2002, he revolutionized women's fashion and continued to lead the global fashion scene for nearly half a century. This exhibition, held with the full cooperation of the Yves Saint Laurent Museum Paris, marks the designer's first retrospective to be held in Japan. Comprised of an introductory chapter and 11 chapters, this exhibition showcases 110 looks by Yves Saint Laurent, as well as accessories, drawings, and photographs, from his debut at Dior to his first collection as a brand and the establishment of his unique style. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent world of beauty created by Yves Saint Laurent's creations, which continued to propose a universal style while being inspired by diverse cultures and history.

Message for the "Yves Saint Laurent Exhibition"
Yves Saint Laurent is known for being the first living designer to have his work exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1983. A large-scale posthumous retrospective was also held at the Petit Palais in Paris in 2010, garnering worldwide attention. It is an immense pleasure to be able to hold Asia's first major retrospective next year in Japan, a place Yves Saint Laurent himself loved. This exhibition will feature 110 textile works, as well as 124 graphic works by Yves Saint Laurent himself, 30 photographs, and 55 pieces of jewelry. It is my hope that this exhibition will enable the Japanese public to experience Yves Saint Laurent's exceptional technical skills and personality.
