Konica Minolta Planetarium TOKYO, a planetarium entertainment facility, will open in Yurakucho, Tokyo on December 19th.
Konica Minolta Planetarium TOKYO, opening on the site of the former Nichigeki Theater in Yurakucho Marion, will be Japan's first twin-dome planetarium. In addition to screening a variety of programs using two domes, the Planetarium Dome Theater and the Multipurpose Digital Dome Theater, it will also feature experiential VR attractions, a cafe, and a shop, making it a dome theater complex with the planetarium at its core.

The "Multipurpose Digital Dome Theater (DOME1)" uses high-resolution dome images of up to 8K, projecting images from the floor to the zenith of the dome, enveloping the entire room. This facility offers an unprecedented planetarium video experience. In addition to screenings of video works, plans call for live music collaborations, interactive content, and various other performance programs.
LIVE ACT PLANETARIA (each performance lasts approximately 40 minutes, admission fee: 2,500 yen for adults/1,500 yen for children) combines theater and live performances with live commentary of the starry sky. Young actors take turns playing the lead role for each performance, creating an interactive planetarium experience. Commentators use audio-only commentary to explain how to find seasonal stars and the myths surrounding constellations, offering a completely new planetarium experience that goes beyond the typical live commentary found in planetariums. The first performance, "LIVE ACT PLANETARIA 1st. ACT," will have the theme of "Dreams Wishing Upon a Star," and will explain the starry sky through a story that interweaves the "dreams" of the actors performing. There will also be a section in which the audience can participate, allowing the entire venue to enjoy a work that creates a single space.
In addition, before watching "LIVE ACT PLANETARIA," you can experience "Shooting Star Lantern - Send a Wish Upon a Shooting Star - by MeteorBroadcaster," which allows you to send a wish to a shooting star. Using the real-time meteor observation system "Meteor Broadcaster," you can send a wish from your smartphone. Your wish will be temporarily saved on a server, and the moment a real shooting star is detected, your wish will be launched along with a lantern onto a giant 12-meter-long screen.
In the "Planetarium Dome Theater (DOME2)," a beautiful starry sky is projected using the latest projector "Cosmo Leap Sigma" and full-dome CG images, while sound is transmitted by 43 speakers and four woofers, creating a "realistic experience" that makes you feel as if you are actually there. The audience will be equipped with premium "Galaxy Seats" that allow them to enjoy the starry sky in a relaxed position. Two types of seats are available: Pair Seats for two people and Single Seats for solo immersion. The seats of the Galaxy Seats feature a galaxy woven with gold and silver threads in Nishijin-ori weaving.
The opening film will feature two works: one in collaboration with DREAMS COME TRUE and one with music entirely written by Joe Hisaishi. The collaboration with DREAMS COME TRUE is based on the theme of "the aspirations of those who look up at the night sky, are captivated by the starry sky, and seek to understand the stars," and features music by DREAMS COME TRUE and narration by actor Tomoya Nakamura. The unique piece, featuring music by Joe Hisaishi, is themed around "the real universe" and recreates the scenery of space based on the experiences of three Japanese astronauts. Narration is provided by actress Kaho. The aquarium also features "Konica Minolta VirtuaLink," a VR attraction where multiple people can share a virtual space using 360-degree 3D video. The latest addition, "Night Cruising," is exclusive to PLANETARIA TOKYO, allowing visitors to enjoy the starry sky while strolling through real-life towns and areas.
At Cafe Planetaria, you can enjoy a collaborative menu created by food and star professionals. They offer original cocktails with sparkling nebulae, the vibrant blue "Galaxy Donut," and other light meals such as sweets and finger foods that evoke the universe, such as the "Star Specimen Box." The Multipurpose Digital Dome Theater (DOME1) also screens programs that allow you to bring in purchased menu items. However, you can also use the cafe alone.
