The 2018 (36th) Mainichi Fashion Awards award ceremony was held in Tokyo on November 22nd, with TOGA designer Yasuko Furuta receiving the Grand Prize.
This marks her second time receiving the Grand Prize, following her first in 2009. At the awards ceremony, Furuta expressed her joy, saying, "I received the Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award shortly after presenting my collection in Tokyo, and then received the Grand Prize after moving to Paris. And now, in the 20th anniversary of the awards' founding, this is my second Grand Prize. I am very happy to have been recognized at such an important milestone."

Furthermore, the Newcomer Award and Shiseido Encouragement Award went to Akiko Aoki of Akiko Aoki, and the Kujiraoka Amiko Award, given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the fashion industry, went to art director Masayoshi Nakajo. The Topical Award went to Zozo's "Zozo Suit."
Aoki said in her speech, "I have always believed that dressing up in clothes is not just about wearing clothes, but about cultural value that can create a new era. I would like to use this award as an opportunity to work even harder." Nakajo said, "I think it is in recognition of the 40 years I have helped with Hanatsubaki magazine as art director." Zozo's Ito Masahiro said, "The idea was for every household to have one like a thermometer, to measure their body and then buy clothes. We want to continue to evolve it by making it easier to measure and more accurate, and we also have clothes that fit perfectly after measuring, so we want people to try them out."

At the party held after the awards ceremony, a fashion show was held, focusing on Akiko Aoki's 2019 Spring/Summer collection.
