Isetan Shinjuku is hosting an exhibition showcasing the works of painter Tsuguharu Foujita, "Drawings and Prints: Children by Tsuguharu Foujita," in the art gallery on the fifth floor of the main building. It will run until May 26th.

Tsuguharu Foujita (1886-1968) was a Japanese Western-style painter who achieved success in France, naturalized as a French citizen, and died in France. The exhibition focuses on the drawings and prints featuring children, a motif that Foujita favored after World War II and which he created after earning acclaim for his delicate lines abroad and establishing an unshakable presence in the Paris art world. In addition to the lively expressions of children he portrays, his works also capture the customs of Paris at the time. The works on display at the venue include "Girl with Flowers (Collection of Mrs. Kimiyo)" (pencil on paper, 22.4 x 16.5 cm / 3.7 million yen), "Cleaning the Floor with a Brush (Collection of Mrs. Kimiyo)" (1958, pencil on paper, 17 x 10 cm / 1.25 million yen), and "Girl with Three Buttons" (1964, lithograph ed.HC 21x16cm/1 million yen), "Cat and Girl" (1955, lithograph edition 220 copies, 39x25cm/2.7 million yen), "The Book of Cats: Ahinoa" (1930, collotype edition 550 copies, 26x19.8cm/700,000 yen), "Chin" (1927, lithograph edition 50 copies, 27x33.5cm/1.6 million yen), "The Little Craftsman: Vagabond" (1960, woodblock edition 261 copies, 19x19cm/350,000 yen), etc.

In addition, a film based on Tsuguharu Foujita, "FOUJITA," starring Joe Odagiri, is scheduled to be released in 2015.
