The power contained within. Dempagumi.inc's Aizawa Risa's Memuse [2019 Spring/Summer Women's Collection]

Oct 29, 2018
MEMUSE, designed by Aizawa Risa, a member of the idol group Dempagumi.inc, presented their 2019 Spring/Summer collection on October 20th at Shibuya Hikarie Hall B.

The theme was wrapping. Using textiles that envelop women, such as laminated chiffon and organza, the brand proposed a collection overflowing with power by wrapping and capturing the individuality and power of women, rather than wrapping themselves as a gift.

A flesh-colored carpet was laid out in the center of the stage, and even before the collection began, many models sat there wearing nude-colored bodywear that accentuated their figure lines. The contrast between the raw humanity of the carpet and models and the anime- and game-like imagery of Memuse's collection, which combines two and three dimensions, emphasizes the fantastical mood of the clothes.

The models, clothes, and details were wrapped in translucent, futuristic materials or elegant, sheer materials, like flowers or sweets, and there were forest fairy-like dresses and metallic coats with mouse-like ears. The sheer materials revealed the energy and lustrous skin of women, coexisting with fantasy, excitement, and a thrilling sense of anticipation. The collection was reminiscent of anime and manga, yet deeply Japanese.

With everyday life and reality becoming a trend and young designers taking a break after a few shows, Aizawa held her third show while continuing to work as an idol. Aizawa said, "I want to create a collection that not only allows people to look at the works, but also changes the way people live their lives." She continued, "I usually work as an idol, and there are many things that can be conveyed through videos and photographs, but seeing it live conveys something completely different. While you can see anything on the Internet, I want people to feel the atmosphere that is conveyed live, and the moment when the atmosphere changes with each look, and maybe that's why I continue to hold shows."
