Maison Martin Margiela's first documentary film, "We Margiela," will be released nationwide starting February 8, 2019, at Bunkamura Le Cinema in Shibuya, Tokyo, and other locations. Ahead of the film's release, the main visual and Japanese trailer have been released.
Martin Margiela, the designer of Maison Martin Margiela, who was passionately supported by fashionistas and maintained anonymity in the media, suddenly disappeared from the public eye in 2008. What happened to this fashion maverick, whose face is never shown, whose interviews are conducted only in writing, and who answers with "we" instead of "I"? This film explores the 20 years of turmoil that had previously been untold, featuring the creative staff at the time, including co-founder Jenny Meirens, who built the fashion industry alongside Martin Margiela; Diana Ferretti Veroni, aka Miss Diana, who was involved in early designs; makeup artist Inge Grognard; Lutz Hüll, who has his own brand; and Harley Hughes, currently at Alexander McQueen. The creative staff at the time worked with a strong sense of "we" being Margiela. Through repeated interviews with the "we" of the time and rare archive footage, this film uncovers the secrets of Margiela through their testimonies.
