Omotesando Hills will be hosting "OMOTESANDO HILLS CHRISTMAS 2018 with Panasonic Beauty," a shimmering Christmas illumination display themed on "An Aurora in the City," from November 7th to December 25th.

This year's design was handled by KEIKO + MANABU, a creative team based in Tokyo and Seattle. Inspired by the beauty of the winter skies of northern Japan, the display will incorporate unusual materials used to deter birds, creating an open-ceiling space that combines art and architecture.

The theme is "An Aurora in the City." Using the entire space of the facility's signature large atrium staircase, a "curtain of light" consisting of approximately 6,000 icicles will be displayed on the ceiling. They gently envelop the entire space, forming shapes such as hearts and diamonds, and when viewed from below the atrium, these shapes softly emerge. In the center will be a 7m-tall Christmas tree decorated with the same heart and diamond shapes as the curtain of light. The tree will glow in green, red, and champagne gold, creating an even more fantastical world view.

In addition, a special performance will be held every 20 minutes. Icicles will be illuminated in time with the music, and in response to their sparkle, the tree will change to aurora colors such as green, blue, purple, pink, and yellow. As the music builds, the aurora that appears in the "curtain of light" will sway mysteriously as if dancing. The first performance each day will begin at 11:20 AM, and the final performance will be at 10:40 PM.
