Eiichiro Oda, creator of "One Piece," and French fashion house S.T. Dupont have collaborated to create the "Sleeping Mermaid Collection," featuring lighters, ballpoint pens, and fountain pens. This collection includes the "Prime Collection," the "Premium Collection," limited to 1,111 pieces worldwide, and the "Prestige Collection," limited to 55 pieces worldwide. Each piece comes in its own original box, and every item is engraved with Eiichiro Oda's signature. Oda has long been a fan of S.T. Dupont lighters and other items. This collaborative lighter was featured in the "One Piece" comic (April 30th special issue), and is also used by Sanji in the film "One Piece Film Z," which opens on Saturday, December 15th.
In the latest issue of "ONE PIECE," Oda says the following: "When I was young, I heard that Dupont was the lighter that a first-class man carried. To be able to design it is the greatest honor for an artist. What surprised me was the high level of skill of the artisans who were able to turn my image into a work that even surpassed it. Now I finally understand what it means to be first-class, and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in completing this work."
At the S.T. Dupont 140th Anniversary Fair, which will be held at Takashimaya Shinjuku in Shinjuku, Tokyo from Wednesday, December 12th, Oda's hand-drawn design sketches will be on display.
