Jogashima, the southernmost island on the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa Prefecture, will transform into an outdoor cinema for two nights only, hosting the "Starry Town Film Festival with CINEMA CARAVAN" on September 29th and 30th.

The first event last year, despite being limited to one day, attracted over 2,000 visitors, filling up the island's parking lots and setting a new record. For the second time this year, the event will be extended to two days and three original films will be screened.
Unlike closed-off movie theaters, this hugely popular outdoor film event allows you to watch films in an open space while enjoying food and drinks. The event's venue, Jogashima Park in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is just a 90-minute train ride from Tokyo. The expansive blue ocean stretches before you, and as the sun sets, a starry sky awaits. Handmade screens and tents will be erected in the otherwise empty park, and after dark, the venue will be illuminated with fantastic lighting. Additionally, a spacious smokers' area overlooking the Pacific Ocean will be set up for the festival period. Guests can relax and enjoy the expansive ocean view. The films being screened are original works created specifically for this event. "Aoi, Mori" is a film adaptation of the winner of the Hirakawa Yuichiro Award at the 2nd "Unfinished Film Trailer Awards," considered a gateway for new directors. It's a beautifully crafted story. "Sakana" features scenes from Jogashima Park, the venue for this event, providing an immersive experience. "Play with the Earth" features a film and live performance depicting the growth of a film through its journey.
"Play with the Earth" is a special version of the film, a compilation of records and sensations captured by photographer Shizuno Rai, the representative of Cinema Caravan, which is producing the event, as he travels around the world. It depicts the people who live in harmony with nature as it is by capturing both the ordinary and extraordinary aspects of Jogashima, such as the annual festival held at Jogashima Kainan Shrine in July, which is held once every five years, and the fishing and everyday lives of the islanders.
The special event website (https://star-cinema-festival.com) will be releasing interviews with the film directors of the films to be screened, trailers, detailed event information, and more.

Cinema Caravan, which holds film festivals in various locations both in Japan and abroad, including the Zushi Beach Film Festival, will be collaborating more actively with the venues in Miura City and Jogashima Ward, and will be setting up a mobile cinema in the Misaki area for three days from August 13th to 15th at the Miura Night Market and the 1st Misaki-Jogashima Fireworks Festival. The festival will feature footage of last year's event, a photo gallery, film screenings, and more. In addition, an event on the theme of "How to create and enjoy an outdoor film festival" is planned to be held in Misaki. Cinema Caravan will also hold a talk event in collaboration with "popcorn," a service that allows anyone to create their own movie theater.
