Shiseido published the autumn issue of its corporate culture magazine, Hanatsubaki, on July 15th. The free magazine is distributed at Shiseido-related facilities and a total of 50 bookstores nationwide (as of July 10th). To coincide with the publication, a fair titled "The World of Books Expanding from Hanatsubaki" will be held on the first floor of Daikanyama T-Site Books Building No. 2.


The theme of the autumn issue of Hanatsubaki is "laughter." In the opening feature, titled "Laughter is Power," young photographer Shimamura Kisshomaru has taken photographs of girls with a variety of smiling faces. "Fill your days with laughter and be happier..." This feature is overflowing with the power of laughter. Other features include a discussion of smiling faces with comedian Takashi Fujii based on Shiseido's "Smile Research," and a roundtable discussion on how to create laughter with TV writer Mitsuru Kuramoto, comedian Yuichi Kimura, and the comedy duo JaruJaru. The serial "Salon de Bar Hanatsubaki" features a conversation between actor Naoto Takenaka and musician Chara. Other interesting content includes an interview with Philip Weisbecker, poems by Kenta Maeno, and stories by Hama Harada, Machiko Kyo, and Asako Iwama. The supplement includes a beginner's guide to rakugo, "Introduction to Rakugo." It includes tips on enjoying rakugo from Sankyu Tatsuo, introductions to recommended rakugo artists, and new rakugo stories by rakugo artists Yoshiwara Tachikawa and Ikuka San'yutei.

In addition, to celebrate the publication of this magazine, a fair called "The World of Books Expanding from Hanatsubaki" will be held from July 13th to August 13th on the first floor book floor of Daikanyama T-Site Books Building 2. In addition to a selection of books related to the magazine, the fair will also sell original Hanatsubaki goods. Original Hanatsubaki stickers will also be given away as giveaways. Related events include a rakugo performance by rakugo performer Tachikawa Yoshiwara, who contributed to the Hanatsubaki Bunko special supplement, and a talk with broadcast writer Kuramoto Mitsuru.
