Dior's Men's Summer 2019 collection, led by Kim Jones, who became the new Men's Artistic Director this season, was unveiled at Paris Fashion Week on June 23rd. The previous Artistic Director, Kris Van Assche, has moved to Berluti.

The collection, held at the French Republican Guard barracks in Paris's 4th arrondissement, featured a giant sculpture of KAWS' signature work, BFF, in the center of the circular venue, and 70,000 pink and black peonies and roses to celebrate Kim's first collection. KAWS also designed the brand's iconic "BEE" for this collection, and this new icon, which was also featured on the show invitations, appeared on various items in the collection.

The collection did not aim for the street buzz that had been generated by Louis Vuitton Men's, under the artistic direction of Kim Jones until the previous season, but instead adhered to Dior's codes of elegance.

This is represented by a porcelain dog perched on KAWS's paw, modeled after Monsieur Dior's beloved dog "Bobby." It is a reproduction of the commemorative bottle of the perfume "Miss Dior" released at the time. The floral patterns used throughout the collection pay homage to Monsieur Dior's love of nature and his passion for flower-like women. Monsieur's favorite teacup and the traditional French pattern of toile de Jouy, which was chosen for the boutique at 30 Avenue Montagne, also appear in various forms. He announced the launch of Dior's men's line as an haute couture house. Starting this season, the brand name has been changed to "DIOR" and the "HOMME" part has been dropped. Each piece features lavish use of tulle and embroidery, and the suit's color palette, including pinks and yellows, could easily be described as a women's line. The suit silhouette features rounded shoulders, and the pockets and other details appear to have been inspired by women's designs. Of particular note is the development of clutches, backpacks, and waist bags based on the iconic women's "Saddle" bag. The "Bee" and "Bobby" charms add a playful touch, stimulating collectors' desires and transcending gender barriers. It's as if the era when women competed to wear Hedi Slimane's Dior Homme suits has been reborn in a glamorous style.

Furthermore, the collection features a wide range of accessories, including a cap designed by hat designer Stephen Jones, a belt with a CD logo buckle designed by Matthew Williamson, and sneakers, perfect for the age of social media.

Above all, the jewelry designed by YOON, the designer of Ambush®, whom Kim hired for this occasion, includes rings and key chains with the Dior logo motif, which skillfully connect the line with the club and skater scenes, demonstrating Kim's true talent as a street culture evangelist for the luxury brand demographic.
