■ "The Map and The Territory" by Luigi Ghirri

A collection of works by Luigi Ghirri, a photographer from Scandiano in northern Italy. Born in 1943, Ghirri began using color film before the advent of "New Color" in the United States, and is considered one of the pioneers of color photography. In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked freely on numerous projects without restrictions, and produced a vast number of photographs during his short career, which ended at the age of 49. This book, edited by British curator James Lingwood, is accompanying a traveling exhibition that will run from 2018 to 2019 at three European museums, including the Museum Folkwang in Germany.







Exhibition “The Map and the "Territory" focuses on the work of Ghirri from the first ten years of his career as a photographer, showcasing his projects up to his solo exhibition "Vera Fotografia" held in Parma in 1979. His works are displayed in 14 sections, including "Initial Photography (1970)," "Kodachrome (1970-78)," and "Still Life (1975-79)."
