"Red Brick JOURNEY," offering a simulated summer travel experience with global soul food and detour areas, will be held at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse from July 28th to August 26th.

Since 2011, the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse has been hosting a summer-only event that allows visitors to experience a global resort without leaving Yokohama. Each year, the event is themed around a different country and has attracted many visitors. Last year's Africa-themed "Jambo FARM!! RED BRICK Paradise" attracted over 800,000 visitors.
This year, the eighth year, the concept will evolve from a country or region theme, creating an extraordinary space themed around "JOURNEY/Summer Travel." As with last year, the design will be handled by SOLSO, a group of plant professionals who produce plantings for commercial facilities and other venues.

After passing through the main entrance gate, you'll come across a single road surrounded by trees, stretching to the horizon. On both sides of the road are food and drink booths selling soul food and alcohol from around the world, as well as three detour areas, each offering sandy beaches and outdoor experiences inspired by various scenes from around the world, past and present, that will make you want to take a detour.
Each area is adorned with colorful flags overhead, creating an exotic atmosphere. Swings, hammocks, and other items are installed throughout the space, creating a space where you can take a break and relax.

Workshops will also be held, including making a herbarium filled with flowers from around the world, and a "Happiness Bottle," a travel memory jar filled with natural crystals collected from around the world. This provides an event experience reminiscent of a "road movie," where you can enjoy the various events that occur along the way. The workshop will suggest ways to use natural elements like beach sand, silk, and flowers, as well as mementos brought back from travels like tickets and wrapping paper, as interior décor.
More workshops are planned, and you can check the latest information on the special website (https://www.yokohama-akarenga.jp/summerevent/).

At night, the venue will be lit up, creating a completely different atmosphere from the daytime. Three unique dining establishments will be offering lunch boxes filled with regional and soul food from around the world, perfect for travelers, as well as alcoholic beverages, kid-friendly cold drinks, and sweets. LECKER, inspired by the rest areas found in airports and freeways around the world, will offer a unique curry called "Dan Dan Curry," a combination of Sichuan and Indian cuisine, and the refreshing resort cocktail "Pineapple Coconut Fizz." Meanwhile, SCREW DRIVER, inspired by the island beach bars that attract travelers to island nations around the world, will offer a lively menu featuring a loco moco bowl with a special sauce, the "Beach Box," topped with coconut-flavored shrimp and grilled baby corn, and the island rum cocktail "Polynesian Mai Tai."

In addition, SLD, a campervan based on the concept of "global travel and outdoor style with global flavors," will offer a menu perfect for summer, including a luxurious grill plate topped with beef sirloin steak, roast pork, and grilled cheese sausage, as well as an "ice stache" made with Hokkaido milk and honey, a creation inspired by Sapporo's street culture.
In addition, there will be photo spots set up within the venue in conjunction with the "Where's Wally? 30th Anniversary Exhibition," which will be held simultaneously in Building 1 from July 31st to August 15th. The exhibition will feature a total of 150 pieces, including approximately 50 original drawings, including picture book illustrations that will be coming to Japan for the first time, as well as early setting illustrations.
Why not create some summer memories at this experiential event, reminiscent of a "road movie," that will make you want to take detours on your travels?
