Paint artist Baanai's second solo exhibition, "In My Brain," will be held at SISON GALLERy in Daikanyama from June 16th to 30th.

Baanai is an artist whose creative energy and inspiration come from the ocean and surfing. After sending a file of his work to Rei Kawakubo of COMME des GARÇONS in 2015, his artwork has been used three times, including on clothing, direct mail, and shopping bags. He has also been in the spotlight for his collaborations with California fashion brand RVCA and, more recently, audio manufacturer Audio-Technica.
This exhibition will feature approximately 80 works that express what is in Bernays' mind as a person, even before he is an artist, as new experiments and challenges.
The following is a message from Bernays.
"First of all, I am fiercely aware that I am a hopeless person. However, even as a person like me, I have the determination and pride to risk my life on painting. I once came across the words, 'All art must have a high spiritual level.' After asking myself what that 'high spiritual level' means for many years, I arrived at my interpretation: 'gratitude and humility.' The word 'ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU' embodies both these feelings. In this exhibition, I am conducting my own experiment and challenge: what would be produced if I continued to paint 365 days a year without a single break? And what would happen if I continued to paint 'ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU.' It would be my greatest joy if viewers could sense from my works the 'endless liberation' that comes from pushing myself so thoroughly, despite my awareness of my own failure."
