Tomio Koyama Gallery will be hosting Ryan McGinley's highly anticipated solo exhibition, "MY NY," from April 6th to May 19th.


In 2016, "Ryan McGinley BODY" was his first solo exhibition at a Japanese museum. This will be McGinley's first solo exhibition in Japan in two years since the huge response he received with "LOUD!", and will feature approximately 10 works from his 2017 solo exhibition "The Kids Were All Right" at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver in the United States.

These works were published in "The Kids Are All Right," a legendary self-published collection of photographs McGinley took of his friends and fellow artists in downtown New York between 1998 and 2003. These are early works from Ryan McGinley's career, capturing the excitement of these people living boldly, freely, and hedonistically.





In addition, the exhibition will also feature Polaroid works exhibited for the first time at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, cameras used in his early creative career, and zines produced at the time. This exhibition will be the first time that the "origins of his expression" will be exhibited in Japan, providing a rare opportunity to demonstrate that McGinley's worldview was established from the very beginning.

An opening reception will be held on the first day, April 6th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Please note that the artist will not be visiting Japan this time.
