Mysterious sphere appears in the sky above London!? UK's largest light festival, "Lumiere London"

Feb 28, 2018
Lumiere London is a festival in which the streets of London, England, are filled with illuminations and artworks using light. Among the many installations illuminating the city, one piece that drew many visitors was the "Origin of the World Bubble."

The installation was displayed above the intersection of Oxford Circus. During Lumiere London, the area was closed to traffic. This work, a large 11-meter-diameter sphere suspended above the ground and displaying a series of psychedelic, geometric patterns, was created by Miguel Chevalier. Chevalier is a Mexican-born artist who has been based in Paris for over 30 years. He has focused on computers as a form of artistic expression from an early stage in his career. He has produced numerous digital works and has presented installations in art centers and galleries around the world. This work, which changes the speed at which individual cells grow, divide, and intersect, and projects these changes onto the sphere, was inspired by biology, microorganisms, and cellular automata, a discrete computational model. The organic world intertwines with the pixelated world, creating a constantly evolving, entirely new world known as "technological baroque." Unfortunately, Lumiere London, which ran from January 18th to 21st, has already finished and it is no longer possible to see the work, but watching the recorded video it is clear that many people enjoyed the otherworldly feel and captivating colors.
