The summer session of the Setouchi Triennale 2022 opened on August 5th. With the support of the Taiwan Cultural Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, renowned Taiwanese artists Wang Wen-chih and Wang Te-yu visited Japan to work on and complete their pieces at the venue.

In recent years, international travel and artistic and cultural exchange have been restricted due to the impact of COVID-19, but following Japan's relaxation of visa issuance restrictions in April of this year, two Taiwanese artists were able to create works directly at the venue.

This is Wang Wen-zhi's fifth time exhibiting, and he has created "Zero (Return to Spirit)," a large structure filled with elements of Taiwanese culture using local bamboo. The work is imbued with the desire to become one with nature both in body and mind, and to return to a pristine Earth.

Wang Deyu's work 'No. 105', which is his first time exhibiting at the art festival, features three inflatable installations (which resemble giant balloons) set in the space of a former wire factory and road construction warehouse, allowing visitors to experience the sensation of being underwater. The artwork is made from recycled industrial materials, expressing the space's historical past and the spirit of sustainable environment.
